Even while healing, there are and will be somedays when potentially everything will appear to go wrong. Emotions and situations connect to create what I might label an “insignificant day”. It may be that on those days I am experiencing stress by strain, and learning to relax with the divine flow of life and letting go of specific outcomes will suppress any difficulties. I may somehow have adopted once again in old survivor thought and behavioral habits which demand that I attempt to take control. Controlling was the natural reaction to the traumatic loss of safety I felt during my abuse, and it rapidly became instrumental in my lifestyle. I understand now at one point; it was necessary to revert back to this familiar reality in order to feel safe. Meanwhile, relaxing and letting go will probably seem like I am not protecting myself and it may also seem completely foreign and unsafe. To relax and let go means that I’ll have to rely upon or seek trust outside of myself; Know through a trust that I’ll be taken care of; That I’ll be safe. This new reality will begin to adhere as patience of practice in abundance. I can start by letting go of small instances whenever I receive mail today or how long it would take to reach a particular destination. I can eventually move on to more difficult situations like letting go of something that can be replaced, the outcome of an interview, a relationship that has run its course, or how some plans may turn out.
No matter where you are right now on your journey as a sexual abuse survivor, remember that there is more to you than what the eye may perceive of the self at this time. You are a Survivor-Stay in action on your healing journey every day and meditate on these concepts, “I Can Relax and Let Go.” Visualize the Affirmation, see it in color or as shaded black and white, however, the mind perceives it, allow for the current response to form naturally. Listen to yourself without judgment and begin to frequently journal this process as you transition the mind to higher knowledge of yourself.
