10/27/2018 0 Comments Defining Eczema | Holistically
"Those who think they have no time for healthy eating ....
First, briefly, I’ll share with you my own personal experience with skin irritation. About two months ago, I would unnoticeably reach down to scratch itchy knees. Then I noticed a change to both elbows and knees as they felt “rough”, abnormally raised and slightly hardened to touch when I had applied a moisturizer to these areas. So, when I observed the skin change, nearly right away a warning sign initiated that something was obviously indifferent about my body. As you continue to read on, I will reveal the cause and quick resolve to my skin flare-up.
Granted I knew exactly how to identify eczema from my stent of treating multiple patients at a retirement community for nine years, as various skin ailments had occurred all of the time, and now adamantly studying Naturopathic medicine, I believe that there is a great disconnect to the underline causes to skin irritation, such as eczema and how all of these diversions are simple to explore.
According to studies, dermatitis was estimated to affect 245 million people globally in 2015. A rule of thumb to remember is that medically the general term for any type of skin inflammation is called Dermatitis. The most common types of dermatitis are Atopic Dermatitis, Nummular Dermatitis, Irritant Contact Dermatitis, and Allergic Contact Dermatitis.
The distinction between Eczema and Dermatitis to describe a skin disorder can be puzzling as both terms are almost always used synonymously. A lot of people use the term eczema to refer exclusively to atopic Dermatitis. The inflammation of the skin that coexists with dermatitis, or eczema produces scaling, flaking, thickening, weeping, crusting, color changing and very often itching. Underlying Imbalances
2. CLIMATE Other external influences are the weather changing from warm to cold, a dry atmosphere, exposure to allergens, stress, or infections like colds can emphasize this condition. 3. LATEX / PRODUCT /METAL ALLERGY The most common case of dermatitis result from allergies called allergic contact dermatitis. As skin inflammation may be linked to contact with medical creams, perfumes, latex, ointments, cosmetics, rubber, poison ivy, metal or metal alloys such as gold, silver, and nickel found in jewelry or zippers. 4. GENETIC You may also be inflicted if other family members have a history of hay fever, such as myself, asthma, and/or atopic dermatitis. In these cases, it is likely that a child is prone to atopic dermatitis that will develop based off of the factors mentioned at any given time throughout his/her lifetime. 5. INTESTINAL IMBALANCE Another factor that may lead to eczema is a condition known as “leaky gut”, low levels of hydrochloric acid in the stomach called hypochlorhydria. This can occur when the intestines become porous and allow small particles of undigested food to enter the bloodstream, evoking an allergic reaction. This can be detected by a urine test, and more information may be found here: Testing for leaky gut syndrome-https://www.sovereignlaboratories.com/blog/testing-for-leaky-gut/. 6. YEAST A genetically base imbalance in the enzyme delta-6-desaturase, which is an overgrowth of yeast in the system called candidiasis may contribute to eczema. Please see more information on how to identify candidiasis here: CDC https://www.cdc.gov/fungal/diseases/candidiasis/index.html. 7. SUNLIGHT Finally, some people have a sensitivity to sunlight that may cause skin irritation. This is more detectable during warmer summer months. If your skin remains in direct contact with the irritant, then the dermatitis is likely to spread and become more acute. In this skin “breakdown” summary are the various types of eczema. ~Atopic Dermatitis also referred as atopic eczema, or in children, infant eczema is an ailment connected to allergy-prone individuals. It typically appears to the face, bends of elbows, behind knees, and is chronically itchy. According to Naturopaths, it usually appears within the first year, and almost always within the first five years. While women who take probiotics during pregnancy have had success at reducing atopic dermatitis in their infants. ~Seborrhea causes scaly patches and red skin to the scalp and/or face, which is believed to be an abundant growth of yeast in the body. ~Dermatitis Herpetifom is is a chronic, itchy skin rash that appears as bumps or blisters. This ailment is connected to intestinal and immune systems disorders triggered by the consumption of dairy and/or gluten products. ~Nummular dermatitis a chronic condition in which round, scaling lesions appear on the limbs. This may be caused by an allergy to nickel and frequently associated with dry skin. Considerations
|
Overall, be vigilant and consciously aware of chronic stress, toxic products applied to the skin or the types of food being ingested for they are your mapping to external health and wellbeing. I get that it’s difficult to break cycles, but if it were easy, everyone would be doing it. All it takes is just one person to break a pattern of our miseducation.

Let’s Begin with the Affirmation for Week 25 !
♡ "I CAN STAND UP for WHAT IS TRUE"
Sometimes I might find that my truth is being challenged, or am I in strife with myself? Maybe I’ve been told that sexual abuse does occur often enough so that I can get over the guilt? Witnessing so many contradictions of truth is bothersome to me. Who’s given the power to speak up for what is true and disheartening to break free?
So that I don't become an outcast because of my truth as a sexual abuse survivor, I voluntarily became it anyways. I may have stood up for myself, actualizing freewill to survive, and the outcome afterward was a glowing light ahead for me to walk away in strides.
To judge how I feel inside is by the energy that now presides.I
Can Stand Up for What Is True, even if it means that I might have to walk away from you. The divine essence of spirituality has a way to free me from the things that no longer serve me. The act of courage is something unlike what I thought it would be.
❖ Surviving to Thriving
♡Visualize the Affirmation, see it in color or as shaded black and white, however, the mind perceives it for the current response to form naturally. Listen to yourself without judgment and begin to frequently journal this process as you transition the mind to higher aspects of yourself.

♡ Your Reality In Balance begins at the very moment as the will is placed forth by your intent to grow and change for the betterment of self, aiding in the improvement of mankind! I'll see you guys the next time. Be well healed, and balance in peace, peace! |
A large portion of Naturopathic medicine is dedicated to the study of Mother Nature’s defenses which are produced each season for our sustainability onto this planet. We will also learn how to prevent the cold\flu by with the gift of nature through conscious, daily prevention and traditional herbs.
A Holistic Health Guide on how to prevent the onset of the cold/flu, boost your immune system, reduce a fever, and to alleviate discomfort will remove the sense of worry so that you can focus more on the things or people you love. There is no match for what the bountiful gifts of what Mother Nature can provide for you this winter season.
First, we’ll discuss a little more about the differences between a common cold or the flu. Colds can last between one to ten days, while the flu can last longer, twelve days or more, followed by a week or so of weakness and a residual cough. The medical terminology for the word flu is Influenza.
Influenza is a highly contagious viral infection of the upper respiratory tract. There are two forms, type A and Type B, both causing acute infection to the throat, nose, bronchial tubes, lungs, and middle ear (Balch, 2010). The common cold, also known simply as a cold, is a viral infectious disease of the upper respiratory tract that primarily affects the nose. The throat, sinuses, and larynx may also be affected (wiki). The reports are that 36,000 Americans die each year, and 200,000 are hospitalized during the cold/flu season. The cold/flu is unpredictable and can affect anyone at any age.
There are more than 200 individual strains of viruses that can cause the cold or flu, and these strains are constantly changing, so the vaccinations against these viruses are always changing as well, which leads to minimal effectiveness for the prevention of outbreaks. Vaccines are available each year for influenza to reduce the likelihood of its spreading. If the strain targeted is actually the one that hits during the winter season, the vaccination is effective.
As you should know the risk for healthy adults under the age of 65, the cold/flu is rarely dangerous, but this group is more susceptible to ear and sinus infections. The group of 65 and older are the fifth leading causes of death during this season.

A Guide to Herbal Categories for the Cold/Flu
ANTIBIOTICS- Kills Germs, Parasites and Bacteria. Boost Immune System.
*Please consult with a professional Herbalists prior to usage
Naturopaths and Herbalists list Echinacea as one of the most powerful flu-fighting herbs. Echinacea enhances the body’s own natural defenses and is extremely effective in combination with the herb Goldenseal. Goldenseal is a natural antibiotic and it also helps alleviate congestion. Alcohol-free Echinacea and Goldenseal combination extract is preferred for children; 4 to 6 drops into water or juice every 4hours x3days.
*Do not take Echinacea for more than three weeks, or use if have an allergy to ragweed. Also, do not take Goldenseal internally for more than one week. Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding. Consult with a Naturopath for a history of CAD, diabetes, or glaucoma before using either herbs.
Green Tea is an immune booster, but to receive the antioxidant benefits, it is suggested to not drink it with milk. Milk may bind with the beneficial compounds, isolating the properties away from the body. *Green Tea contains a small amount of caffeine, and should not be used in large quantities for women who are pregnant/breastfeeding, persons with anxiety disorders, or irregular heartbeat but may consume up to 2 cups/day.
Spirulina is an immune booster and produces twenty times as much protein as soybeans growing on an equal-sized area of land (Balch 2010). Spirulina has been clinically tested and has shown a variety of effects. Those with the common cold experienced less cold symptoms, others showed lowered cholesterol levels and blood pressure (Balch, 2010).
Maitake, Shiitake, and Reishi Mushrooms pose special nutrients to strengthen the immune system. They are used to build resistance to disease and to treat fatigue and viral infections. Soak dried mushrooms in warm water or broth for thirty minutes before using. Also available in supplement capsule, pill, or an extract for convenience.
Vitamin C protects against infection and enhances immunity. Vitamin C works synergistically with vitamin E and beta-carotene. There is a list of herbs that obtain Vitamin C, such as Alfalfa, cayenne, burdock root, nettle, raspberry and so on. (and of course, Vitamin C is found in a host of fruit as well) *If you are pregnant, do not take more than 5,000 milligrams of vitamin C daily.
ANTIPYRETICS– reduce Fever/ used to prevent or reduce fever
Hyssop | aides in fever, expel mucus from the respiratory tract, and relieves congestion: *should not be used during pregnancy
Fenugreek| reduces fever and mucus
Catnip tea with dandelion and lobelia, taken in tea or extract form is good for lowering fever. Like catnip, lobelia can be used on its own. Taking 1/2 teaspoon of lobelia extract or tincture every four hours helps to lower a fever. *Lobelia is only to be taken under supervision of a health care professional as it is potentially toxic. Pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with high blood pressure, heart, liver, and kidney disease, seizure disorders, or shortness of breath should not take lobelia (Balch, 2010).

ANALGESICS- relieves Pain by reducing the signal to the brain/acting to relieve pain
Mullein | acts as a painkiller
Dong Quai | pain reliever, a mild sedative
Chamomile | good for pain; a traditional remedy for stress, anxiety, indigestion, and insomnia
Essential Oils | wintergreen, jasmine, peppermint, juniper, rosemary, thyme, rose and lavender has been effective in the treatment of a variety of types of discomfort
One of the body’s main defenses against a virus is a fever. If you have a fever, do not suppress it unless it is over 103 degrees Fahrenheit. Be aware if you’re taking Tylenol and drinking alcohol for it will lead to liver damage.
|
More Preventative TipsResearchers link the cold/flu to psychological stress. Therefore, the best way to fight a cold/flu is to take it on by strengthening the immune system. The thymus and adrenal glands are the “elite” for the immune system. When the body is sick it is under stress, and stress depletes the immune system. |

Seeking help can turn the most self-assured, direct person into a “worry-hog”. We may feel uncomfortable and as a burden to others, or experiencing a sense of stagnation from past mistakes in our relationships. Certainly, these aspects are what has transpired inside of our head. One would believe to think to ask for assistance in order to “by-pass” such misery, but following through with confidence when help is needed is tough for almost everyone. Asking for help may be difficult, but so are most things worth doing.
|
1)Fear of Being a Burden
First of all, asking of others could lead to burden if you’re out of practice of doing so. You could be fearful that asking for help will take something away from the helper, or assume they will see the task as a heavy load. As one should know that most individuals that are secure, love helping others.
According to Dr. Hendriksen, Ph.D., “the most primitive part of the brain- the same reward pathway activated by food and sex-lights up in response to altruistic giving.” Not only does helping bring strength to social ties, but it also allows the helpers to feel good about themselves. If this is not the case for you, & the helper is actually over-burdened or are too busy, graciously trust him/her to communicate as so & find someone else to assist you with your need. |
2) Past Mistakes
Depending on one’s level of consciousness, their reverence of duties is seasonal. In this regard, a person has lessons that will be either unknowingly bypassed or have substantially completed, like a great cycle or continuance. A person’s circumstance is led by personal choice, & the other is brought upon based on outside influences. Every path is an opportunity to educate ourselves on. These are opportunities to internally grow & improve during each turn of the wheel. Healing is essential in order to release from the bondage of past mistakes so that we may receive help from those around us.
|
The fear of admitting to our past mistakes is particularly common when more than enough of turmoil adhere to cause friction. An influx in social status, economic plans, or issues within personal relationships can feel like you're failing or incapable of addressing daily conjunctures. Sometimes when we try to control every situation that rapidly emits, it turns out not to be the better approach for us.
In this way, we can ensure a sense of balance before asking someone to assist with our need. Past mistakes will seem like “water underneath the bridge”, allowing a fluidly, positive flow of success in our life by rebuilding a peaceful bond between new & old friends. Do not avoid past mistakes. Actively forgive yourself.
Also known as a “needy appearance”-incompetent, stupid, or broken. Regardless, the worry of appearance is just another apparent “roadblock” when it comes to asking for help. Remind yourself that the ability to have someone to ask for assistance means that you are being supported & connected. Reframe from the mindset of whichever fearful appearance that our thoughts could relay, & utilize the best options that are near to us. In order to alleviate the fear of appearing weak, for example, match the request with someone considered an expert. Say if you were having car troubles, you’d more than likely seek a professional mechanic for their feedback, or if financial woes occur, you’d be apt to speak with an individual who specializes in finances, & so on. The key word here is an expert, one that is reliable and willing to provide specific information. Furthermore, try asking for help as if you’re inquiring about expert instructions. For instance, one may ask a helper, “Can I pick your brain for a minute”, “Can I get your perspective on something”, or “It’s been a long time since I’ve done this.” You should also be present in defining what is needed in order to counter the fear of appearing weak. |
|
|
Defining & asking for what you want is necessary before the requirement of others can step in. So, if it’s the fear of being a burden, unresolved issues, or the worry of appearing weak- practice being acutely specific in regards to your need(s). This sounds easy, but for many people, it’s not. We may know what we want at this very minute, but have no clue of the bigger picture. Sometimes we focus on the surface of the ocean, not realizing what’s above or beneath it. This can cause unsettled waves of destructive around us. An approach to dismantling the fear of asking for help is ideal as you may know by this point. Make a list of what it is that you are seeking, noting specific qualities, ideas & more. The act of writing lists prompts us to tune in to what it is that we need, enforcing our true intent. Take time, and be honest in every situation, including everything that is most important first. We can direct our mind this way to consciously create the circumstances we desire.
